I don't give reviews to include a synopsis of a novel but, I sure read them. I have read all Mr. Tigner's books. I have enjoyed them all. I typically read more military spec/ops thrillers. His characters really get me hooked. If you haven't read any other of his books. DO! You will lose a night of sleep.
15 Stars. I loved this book. I am really in love with the way this author writes. Fast paced intrigue. Twists and turns happen so fast you really don't want to stop reading. You think you have it figured out, and Bam you do not. I love how he turns everything upside down for the reader. I love it. This story is anything but boring. You just don't want to put it down. I love Achilles and Katya, and I am begging for more of them to come soon.
I am always looking for just that author to grab my attention. I read a deal, and 20 pages in I can always tell if I am going to like the book or not. You will NOT be disappointed with Mr. Tigner I promise you. He is addicting. I just downloaded 'Flash' to read while waiting for a new Achilles to come out. There are some crappy authors out there, (I seem to find them too) but this is not one of them. You have a fan for life now. Thanks for the good thoughtful fun fast on the edge of my seat story. I enjoyed the hell out of it. Cant wait for the movies. 007 is mild in comparison to the trouble Achilles gets into.
I'm impressed with anyone that ran the Serengeti with Maasai Warriors.
The story has so many twists yet everything comes together very neatly. A breathtaking plan by the Russians to cause enormous mayhem is the foundation. Above it is built a story with loyalty, friendship, alliances between very unlikely people. Enemies who become friends, while negotiating an unexpected partnership.
The characters are brilliantly developed so that you find yourself eager to see how their plans are going to work out. Romance is a minor driving force but it is well built into the overall narrative.
The pace is fast and you eagerly keep turning the page to find out what happens next. I lost sleep because I wanted to get to the end, which is a cliffhanger. The humanity of the protagonist makes the story more credible, rather than detract from it. Exposing the greed and sly nature of humans adds to the storyline.

Tim Tigner’s stories are written for and about today. They are so exciting that, once you start the story, it is extremely hard to put it down. Just when you think you have figured it out, the story twists and another calamity occurs, unraveling the calm and order you thought existed with the characters, at least for a little while. The is the 3rd in the series (the first was a novella that introduced Kyle Achilles) and, while not necessary to enjoy this book, I recommend you read them all in order. It is always interesting to see how characters evolve within a series. The Achilles character is no different. He is an accomplished operative who was recruited after excelling in the Olympics for his exceptional skills. He specializes in clandestine missions; and in this case, he is called for such a mission for the President of the U.S. I don’t want to mention any of the plot since it is so amazing, and I don’t want to ruin a minute of it. I will say that it involves treason, assassination plots, spies and highly developed amazing spycraft, industrial sabotage, greed, technology, psychological warfare, a very tiny bit of romance, and lots and lots of character development. I think you will enjoy this story. I have read all of this author’s books, and recommend all of them.
If you've never heard of Tim Tigner, or read any of his books, you are in for a big treat. If you have, then you know what to expect. Tigner tells compelling stories, always with a unique touch of technology and built around memorable characters. I'm not sure why movie producers aren't chasing him to option the Kyle Achilles character and books for a series of movies.
This is reminiscent of the feel of James Bond decades ago, and Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan, but with stay-up-all-night-to-read story lines. A quick glance at Tigner's bio offers clues about how he can write such diverse and intricate stories, set in a variety of locales. These books just cry out to be movies--a whole series of them.
I've been reading Tims books from the beginning, and when he finishes a new one, I put aside the other current bestsellers and dive into it. If this review is over the top complimentary, that's exactly what I intended. The Lies of Spies is that good. Few current novelists in this genre are even in the same class, no matter how famous they are.
Time to stop reading my praise for The Lies of Spies. You could be reading it. Enjoy!
