After getting more than 10 percent through the book without arriving at the promised stories, I was wondering how much longer this preface would last, and realized it was probably a necessary setting of the context for what was to come. I had already lived in the Philippines myself for two years and already knew first hand what I was reading, and misery loves company, so I can visualize and empathize with the author, but for newbie's this introduction seemed like a good thing. Having referred to newbie's, reminds me that I have expat friends who've been in SE Asia for 15, 20 years or more, and they consider me a newbie still.... I'm 100% finished with reading the book. Meaning I read the whole thing today. I've never read anything like it before. It leaves me not knowing what to say, how to describe it. Politically correct words fail me.... Let me try anyway: it is one man's cathartic process, confessional, soapbox; alternately informative, self loathing (he sometimes calls himself a monster towards the end, but I don't see that at all) rambling and coherent. It does strip bare (no pun intended) and show the dark side of meeting and dating Pinay's for a Westerner. Much of what the Author describes, from the fact that a Westerner always remains an outsider to the Pinay's family, to the almost gibberish texting (usually oral English skills are better), to the games on dating sites, and the high risk of ultimate failure to find any romantic love when there's a huge age difference, are all things I have found true in my own life.Product details

Chock full of great information and morsels of truth that will aid any person contemplating this journey. Get it now .
You know a book is garbage when you can cut the first 50 pages and not effect the story. Actually there is no story. Nor point. Just a bunch of pretentious ramblings. Complete drivel.
The author writes of "love" but had the questionable taste to have a book cover depicting a woman's backside with her shorts pulled down. He writes of "love" but is thinking "sex". Left unsaid is the fact that the Philippines is a strongly Catholic nation and adultery is ILLEGAL.
As for the author's grammar and spelling, read the product description. It was written by the author. It's absolute rubbish.
Makes absolutely no sense the entire book other than the quip about a former first lady. More rants and raves about nothing than anything else.
The good is that the personality of the author really shines through in this book. He isn't a hero but someone you may feel pity for. I love when people share politically incorrect opinions of third world countries , because most of our images are phony pictures from brochures and people who are from the country painting a pretty picture. For example I had one friend who got robbed in the Philippines, posted it on Facebook and got reprimanded hard via email for doing so by one of his American-Filipina coworkers. So anyway , I like the lack of a filter on the author's keyboard.
However, this is a very dysfunctional person writing this book, whose world comes from desperate men recklessly looking for partners a third their age or just plain sex. I feel like the author gets a little slice of his view , and does a good job, but I don't really see a whole lot of the successful philippino marriages being mentioned. That isn't the book's intention, but the reader ought to be careful to keep the book's asymmetrical outlook in mind.
A message to the author You have many spelling errors in there my friend!! Get those fixed ASAP!
excellent book, full of laughs, but also true of real life stories in the Phillipines
I must agree with another review that I have never read anything quite like it. First let me say I loved the book. The author is obviously quite intelligent but may need some help in the relationship department. He has some deep insight into the people of the Philippines and why they are the way they are. The man is a genius when it comes to humor and I am sure many will miss some of his humor as I know I did not understand everything he said. His writing style is hard to follow at times but only detracts from the story slightly. I knew that there would be negative overtones in this book because of the description and / or reviews but me being serious about embarking on a search for my own sweet pinay I thought I needed to hear it to give me a more sober and informed approach to my quest. My short two week stay in Angeles gave me an impression of a very sweet people including men and women. To say there are negative overtones in this book is certainly a gross understatement. With his cynical outlook on the women there I dont know how he can stay and expect to ever find real love. Maybe he is right and it is almost impossible. A real eyeopener and I hope he is exaggerating. Highly recommended reading. Buckle up.
